The Gosford church of Christ does not have a creed or formal statement of beliefs. We do understand that in considering Christianity you may ask, “What do you believe?” In answer to this question the members of the Gosford church of Christ affirm the following, amongst other things…
We Believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. We accept the Old Testament writings as the history of God's dealings with His people, preparing the world for His presence in the person of His Son, Jesus. We also accept the New Testament, in conjunction with revelations recorded in the Old Testament, as the sole authoritative source of information concerning the will of God manifested in the person, life and teaching of Jesus Christ. The Bible is the sole instruction of the ordinances and elements of church life, leadership, worship and ministry.
We Believe there is one gospel or message of Good News. By this gospel we are saved (see 1 Corinthians 15) and secure eternal life. The gospel is that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day.
We Believe there is one, true God who is the creator of the heavens, earth and life in all its forms. God is eternally existent in three personalities: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We Believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, bodily ascension into heaven, and His personal return once again in power and glory.
We Believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. The Holy Spirit also empowers believers for service and seals them unto the day of redemption.
We Believe that salvation cannot be gained by human effort, but only through God's grace in the redemption He provided in Jesus Christ, a redemption which is responded to by faith and which leads to a life devoted to obeying God. As Christians we take on a new identity, been seen as pure in God’s eyes – despite our sins and wrong doings.
We Believe that all immersed believers are called to imitate Christ’s attitudes. Christ is our perfect role model. We are disciples of Jesus Christ and try and imitate his attitudes, life of service, care, devotion to God and love. With the strength of God we pursue a new life that honours God with spiritual worship, service to our neighbours and an attempt to resist the sins that are all too familiar to us.
We Believe in the resurrection of the dead. For those in Christ the Bible teaches, again in 1Corinthians 15, that those in Christ will be raised imperishable to inherit eternal life. This belief answers one of life’s deepest questions: “What will happen to me when I die?”
We believe that all who by faith are baptized (immersed fully in water) into Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the church, of which Christ is the head. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by building its members up in the faith, by instruction of the word, by fellowship, and by advancing and communicating the gospel to the entire world.
